Research Interest:
The increase in construction on a global scale has increased the need for concrete. This increase leads to both economic and environmental problems in the supply and preparation of aggregate, which is the largest raw material in concrete production. In this purpose, the use of alternative materials for conventional aggregate in concrete production offers both economic and environmental advantages. It was planned to conduct an experimental study to investigate the structural effects of natural perlite aggregate on reinforced concrete (RC) elements. Within the scope of the study, a total of 8 RC specimens (4 RC beams + 4 RC columns), four each with similar cross-sectional dimensions, will be produced. Two of the four RC beam/column specimens in the plan will be produced with natural perlite aggregate and two each with conventional aggregate. In addition, it was aimed to make two different designs for each specimen in terms of concrete compressive strength (25 and 40 MPa). Various structural behaviors of RC elements (load-displacement relationship, moment-curvature relationship, degradation of stiffness, ductility ratio and damage distributions, etc.) will be measured under the effect of flexural loading for beams and axial + cyclic loading for columns. It is thought that the research findings to be obtained in the current study will shed light on future studies and bring innovation to the construction sector.
