Abstract Title: The Role of Active Solar Architecture in Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Yemen

Biography:

Dr. AbdulFattah Alwah received his BS in Architecture and Environmental Planning from Hadhramout University, Yemen in 2005. He was appointed a teaching assistant in the Department of Architecture at Ibb University in 2008. He received his MS in Architectural Design from Menoufia University, Egypt in 2015 and his PhD in Urban Design and landscape architecture in 2021. In 2021, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Ibb University in Yemen and Head of the Department of Architecture. He has been a visiting professor at the Nurtingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany since May 2023. He has published numerous scientific papers in high-impact areas (SCI, EI, and Scopes).

Research Interest:

This paper explores the application of passive solar design principles in Yemeni architecture, analyzing their potential to reduce energy demand for heating, cooling, and lighting. It examines key strategies such as optimal building orientation, thermal mass utilization, natural ventilation, and the integration of shading devices, drawing from both traditional Yemeni building techniques and modern innovations. The study highlights the alignment of these approaches with Yemen's climatic conditions, emphasizing their adaptability in both urban and rural contexts. By evaluating case studies and simulation data, the research demonstrates that passive solar architecture can significantly lower energy consumption, reduce dependence on non-renewable resources, and contribute to a sustainable built environment in Yemen. The findings underline the importance of promoting awareness and policy support for passive solar strategies, positioning them as a vital component of the country's energy-efficient building practices.
